In the remote and underserved sub-district of Taltali in southern Bangladesh, the Kazirkhal Community Clinic faced major challenges in providing essential health services to the villagers. Serving approximately 10,000 people, the clinic struggled with outdated and broken medical equipment, severely limiting its ability to offer quality health facilities.
Nazrul
Smriti Sangsad (NSS), in collaboration with the technical support of Concern
Worldwide, implemented the Reproductive Maternal Neo-Natal Child and Adolescent
Health (RMNCAH) programme that aimed to improve health and family planning
services in the region. This initiative focused on strengthening community
health systems through regular meetings and active participation of Community
Groups (CG) and Community Support Groups (CSG).
During
a community group meeting on 10th June, 2024, the lack of essential
medical equipment such as blood pressure machines, weighing scales,
thermometers, and thermal scanners was highlighted as a critical issue that
should be improved. The community group, supported by the UEHb & FPSC
committee and the RMNCAH project team, decided to present this pressing need to
the Union Parishad (UP) Chairman, Mr. Alomgir Musulli.
Recognizing
the urgency, Mr. Musulli responded swiftly and he facilitated the provision of
new medical equipment from the UP budget, including BP machines, weighing
scales, and thermometers within two days. This intervention significantly
transformed the clinic’s capacity to deliver primary healthcare services to the
community people.
Mr.
Bashir Uddin, the Community Health Care Provider (CHCP) at Kazirkhal Community
Clinic, expressed his gratitude: ‘‘Because of medical equipment supply I will
be able to give quality health service than before. I thanked to everybody who
were involved with this process.’’
